Adaptive S.T.A.R. Award

Adaptive S.T.A.R. Award is to be presented annually to an emerging Toronto adaptive athlete who demonstrates Strength, Tenacity, Achievement, and Resilience. $500 will be awarded annually in the first week of June to coincide with National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) in Canada. Toronto residents with a disability up to the age of 25 are eligible to be nominated by a coach/teacher/instructor or parent/guardian in pursuit of their athletic pathway. Nominations run from March 1 – May 31.

Initial funding for this award was contributed by the Sport for Development Fund as a legacy of the TEAM Fund managed by the former Toronto Sport Council.

How do I Apply?

The application is to be completed by the athlete and their family, the feeder sports organization and/or mentoring sports organization. If the athlete is not currently affiliated with a mentoring sports organization (i.e. a competitive club) but is supported in the application by the feeder organization (example, high school or YMCA) a request to the Toronto Accessible Sports Council (TASC) to assist in locating a potential mentor organization may be made.

The application deadline for the 2026 grant year is: May 31, 2026.

The athlete must meet all of the eligibility criteria.

The privacy of the applicant and the organizations is important to the Toronto Accessible Sports Council (TASC). TASC will take reasonable measures to ensure the security of personal information.

Successful Applicants

All submitted applications will be reviewed and the Adaptive STAR Award Committee will make a decision on the successful applicants. Decisions by the Committee are final. Successful applicants will be notified directly by email and / or phone message.

Additional Information

As outlined above, the mentoring sports club must provide the athlete with appropriate documentation detailing the use of grant monies (e.g. registration receipts).

In accepting the Adaptive STAR Award grant from The Toronto Accessible Sports Council (TASC), the athlete agrees that their name and/or image may be used by the Toronto Accessible Sports Council (TASC) in the promotion and reporting of the Adaptive STAR Award. The athlete also agrees to be available (on a reasonable basis) to the Toronto Accessible Sports Council (TASC) for promotional functions over the twelve-month period of the grant.

Should an athlete incur significant injury that prevents them from utilizing the Adaptive STAR Award grant monies, the Toronto Accessible Sports Council (TASC) must be informed immediately.
